We offer parents three weekly Drop-in Sessions, and their children are cared for in our crèche delivered from diverse venues in and around the estate maximising accessibility. Which are facilitated by project workers and senior members, giving young parents the opportunity to meet with others in similar situations, within these group settings they are encouraged to devise their own quarterly programme, with the aim of creating ownership.
Many of the teen parents we work with have little confidence when they first come to us, and yet without this essential ingredient, it can be almost impossible for them to overcome the problems they face.
So building confidence is the foundation for much of our work and is built into all our drop-ins, courses and programmes.
Our experience shows it takes time for teen parents to speak about issues which may affect them, but when they do their message is a powerful one. The process of being heard helps to build confidence. Some young parents we work with feel they are discriminated against on many levels which makes them feel less equal members of society.
Drop-ins supports disadvantaged young parents enabling them to overcome prejudice against them and take charge of their own lives. We deliver services for teen parents with the aim of supporting them to overcome any discrimination they may face.
All drop-ins welcome a focus on activities which promote equality. We place great importance on the participation and involvement of teen parents in raising awareness about issues which may affect them.
Drop-ins are delivered in teen-parents only spaces providing a safe and encouraging environment leading to them building confidence, develop new skills, challenge stereotypes and build support networks.
